Explore 800 years of Dutch history in the Rijksmuseum. The Rijksmuseum shows art from the years 1200 to 2000 out of a collection of more than one million pieces. The Rijksmuseum is the largest art museum in the Netherlands and it presents some of the best art pieces from Dutch painters. The Rijksmuseum was founded in The Hague and moved to Amsterdam in 1808. The main building of the Rijksmuseum was recently renovated. After a ten-year renovation, the museum was reopened in 2013 by Queen Beatrix. In 2013 and 2014 it was the most visited museum in The Netherlands. Notable painters such as Johannes Vermeer, Jan Steen, and Rembrandt van Rijn are featured among the 2,000 paintings from the Dutch Golden Age in the Rijksmuseum.

The painting is renowned for its massive size, it’s use of light and shadow and the perception of motion.
