Zundert, only 10 km from Breda, is the place of birth of Van Gogh. Vincent’s childhood in Zundert was pleasant, and the family was close-knit. On the master’s native soil there is also room for the work of his artistic counterparts, from the past as well as the present. You can walk through the garden, see the church, his older brother’s grave, and other interesting sites.
Including entrance Vincent van Gogh House, audio tour and walking tour.
Vincent van Gogh is the main theme of our exhibition program. His life and art are an inspiration to many. Besides the permanent exhibition of Van Gogh & Zundert, the Vincent van Gogh House offers an interesting program of temporary exhibitions of modern and contemporary artists who are inspired by Van Gogh.
Our permanent exhibition focuses on the youth of the artist. Vincent himself will guide you in an audio tour about his special relationship with his brother Theo and the concerns of his parents. His birthplace Zundert will come to life through projections. You will recognize his love for nature. You will get an insight into the art trade of his uncles, witness his struggle with religion and you’ll discover the fate of the rest of his family.
Vincent van Gogh could become the artist he was partly because of his youth in Zundert. He became an inspiration for many future artists and he even got the nickname ‘Father of modern art’. This is also the subject of the second room in the permanent exhibition. Through a poetic mixture of art and quotes, you will discover the huge impact this master has had on numerous artists, as you can see in the works of art on the wall.
Zundert – The Vincent van GoghHouse in Zundert presents the exhibition “Vincent inspires” from January 19th until March 17th.
With the new artwork from the museum collection, one sees that van Gogh still is a current source of inspiration for contemporary artists.
You can see the artwork of artists who worked in the host studio next to the Van Goghchurch. These artists work here inspired by van Gogh's native village and the surrounding natural region. In exchange for their stay in the residence, they donate one of the works for to the Van Gogh House.
